I'm going to do something I've never done, and present another novelist's work. I taught English in Lackawanna. I stumbled across a fierce young writer, working on a book about her life. She'd never shown it to anyone. I convinced her to show it to me. Kid's got a gift, and a way of going at the world, and at writing, that I recognize. I talked her into doing some fiction. This way, I can claim some sort of influence when people ask me what's in the water in Buffalo, to produce writers like this. You'll be hearing a lot from her in the future.
